Sometimes Solo

Tips and tricks for the sometimes solo traveler

About Me

Hi, I’m Anna. If you’re visiting this blog you probably already know me. I am a curious, social person who has been fortunate to be able to visit 27ish countries and all seven continents.

I’m based in the Washington, DC area and am a solo act: no spouse, no kids, no pets, no plants. I wouldn’t have it any other way! When I travel, I like to wake up early and see as much as I can in a day, usually taking a couple of hours in the afternoon to rest and recharge. I love delicious food, hiking, snorkeling, museums, and the performing arts. I can spend all day out in nature but need a bed and plumbing at night–no camping for me! I consider myself a “bougie budget traveler” in that I want to get the most for my money but I stay in a private room (no dorms or bunk beds) and I need luggage with wheels (no backpack unless it’s for a day hike).

Traveling solo is a true pleasure in my life and I hope this blog encourages more people to try it. Just because you’re on your own doesn’t mean you have to spend your entire trip by yourself–unless you want to. Going to places alone opens up a new world of possibilities; you’re more likely to meet people, experience spontaneous adventures, and gain a more authentic understanding and appreciation of the place you’re visiting.

One of my favorite parts of traveling is the trip planning process, so I thought I’d share some unfiltered recommendations and tips from a non-influencer. I’ll give you my honest opinions, from the great triumphs to the embarrassing mistakes. Andiamo!
